Our Story

The Center for Healthy Aging (CHA) began developing ITNSantaMonica (now called ITNGreaterLA) in early 2005 as the first replication of the Independent Transportation Network® in Portland, Maine. CHA was particularly interested in the program because one of its offices is located only a few blocks from the site of the 2003 farmers' market tragedy involving an older driver.

Older adults urgently need reliable and affordable transportation.

The initial service area included Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, and Brentwood. Service has now expanded to include nearby parts of Culver City, West Los Angeles, Palms, Mar Vista, and Venice.

Exciting plans are underway to start new partnerships, expand the organization and provide more rides to older adults and those with visual impairments. We are currently seeking additional volunteers to drive or work in the office. Service is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please contact us if you would like to become part of an innovative nonprofit providing dignified transportation to older adults and those with visual impairments.
